8K CHILLY CHALLENGE

The Chilly Challenge 8K starts and finishes at North Buncombe Middle School.  The race begins at the school and travels up the hill behind the football stadium.  (Please be aware of the speed bumps along this road.)

The course follows Dula Springs Rd. downhill to North Buncombe School Rd. to Evening Shade Drive, where runners have an opportunity to cheer each other on with an out and back.

Next up is a straight and fairly flat stretch, then loop around the North Windy Ridge School campus, returning via North Buncombe School Rd.  The race finishes with a short uphill push back to the entrance of North Buncombe Middle School. 

 

1-MILE CHILI CHASE

The 1-Mile "Chili Chase" starts and finishes at North Buncombe Middle School.
  • From the start line, proceed out of the front parking lot

  • Turn left to follow the road behind the football stadium

  • Go up the hill to the marked turnaround point

  • Turn around and head back down the hill

  • Watch for and follow the spray painted arrows!

  • Turn left into the football/soccer stadium

  • Make a clockwise 3/4 lap around the football/soccer field fence

  • Turn left out of the field, follow the arrows toward the baseball field

  • Continue towards home plate and run clockwise along the outfield fence

  • Head back towards the concession stand and the road

  • Turn left out of the gate and continue down the hill

  • Turn right at the parking lot

  • Cross the finish line!

1-Mile Chili Chase ends well before the 8K finish

ADDITIONAL INFO

There are two water stations along the route and the 8K course is partially open to limited traffic.

Please be mindful of traffic, stay to the right side of the road as much as possible and do not run more than two (2) abreast if you can help it. Avoid the middle of the road and run in the direction of traffic.

 

Police will be stationed at all major intersections and will limit traffic entering the race course. Volunteers will be at all other intersections.   In case of emergency during the race, please notify the nearest volunteer and call 911.
